End of life
What it means to stay in one place at the end of life, and how hospice services are coordinated around you.

Most people say they would rather not die in hospital, and most still do. Staying in one place at the end of life takes planning, and somewhere willing to see it through.
It means comfort care rather than active treatment, with pain and symptoms managed as they change. It means the same staff, who already know the person, rather than a ward of strangers. And it means a clinician who stays responsible throughout, rather than handing over at the door.
Hospice services, arranged on the family’s behalf
Medication, administered as often as it is needed
Personal care day and night, in the resident’s own room
Families are not visitors in this arrangement. Coming and going as you need to is part of it.
If this matters to you, ask about it before it is urgent. It is a hard conversation to have in a hurry.
